Open Letter to Cllr. Hamida Ali, Leader of Croydon Council, and Katherine Kerswell, Chief Executive
The recent stories emerging from Croydon's council tenants have been appalling. It has been painful to realise that our friends and neighbours have been so desperate for support and that they voices have not been heard.
There are amazing local groups now working to empower the residents of the Regina Road estate to challenge what has been going on and to also amplify the voices of residents suffering the same injustices elsewhere in the borough.
Accommodation Action are one of these groups who have had some success in improving conditions for the families placed in temporary accommodation at Gilroy Court. I've learned from them how important it is for residents to have the tools to self-organise and I'm acting to ensure residents' voices at the centre of the enquiry into the Regina Road housing scandal.
Please get in touch for details of an upcoming open meeting for residents affected by poor housing. If you have not done so already, please add your name to our open letter calling for a full enquiry that ensure people's lived experiences are central to it.
